Man is the Measure of All Things departs from the human’s urge to control and measure nature. One wants to study, but also contemplate, admire and finally, try to merge in with nature.
By using a mathematic formula and with the use of a GPS device to calculate the distance, one can count the height of the mountains at distance by using a human being as a measurement tool.
Originating from the German school of romantic painting the Rückenfigur is still continued to be used in the current photography trends. Not only playing with the cliché imagery, in this project the artistic concept meets with scientific concept. Human being’s various needs are merged in these photographs: at the same time man wants to become one with the nature, and at the same time man has the will to control, measure, understand and explain the nature.
The images are shown as diptychs, as in using a scientific method one result must always be verified by another.
